India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma has attained the career-best eighth position in the ICC Test rankings. Sharma made a jump of six places after scoring a fine knock of 66 runs in the first innings in the third Test against England at Ahmedabad. Rohit also scored an unbeaten 25 in the second essay.
Rohit now has 742 rating points under his bag and he has leapfrogged his teammate Cheteshwar Pujara, who slips two positions to the 10th rank. On the other hand, India’s rookie spinner Axar Patel, who was awarded the Player of the match for taking 11 wickets, has taken a massive jump of 30 places to move to 38th place.
Furthermore, Ravichandran Ashwin, who bagged seven wickets in the match, has made a gain of four places to move to third place. Meanwhile, England’s left-arm orthodox spinner Jack Leach has made a vault of three places to grab the 28th rank after taking four wickets in the first innings of the third Test.
England’s skipper Joe Root took his maiden five-wicket haul in the Test fold as he returned with impressive figures of 5-8, which has helped move 16 places to the 72nd spot among the bowlers. Root is now the 13th joint-rank player among the all-rounder’s rankings.
England’s opener Zak Crawley, who scored a fine knock of 53 runs in the first essay, has progressed 16 places to take the 46th rank.
James Anderson slipped by three positions to the sixth place whereas Stuart Broad and India’s gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah moved down by a position to seventh and ninth rank respectively after going wicketless in Ahmedabad.
Kane Williamson and Pat Cummins continue to be at the numero uno positions in the batsmen and bowler’s rankings respectively.
The fourth Test match between India and England will be played at the same venue of Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad from March 4.
