India’s left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav reckons that if he performs well, he knows he will be back in the main Indian team. Kuldeep has been picked for the tour of Sri Lanka and he will look to deliver the goods in the upcoming white-ball series. The wrist spinner hasn’t been at his best in the last two years and he will aim to bounce back stronger.
Kuldeep was not selected for the tour of England and he will have a point to prove on the Sri Lanka tour. The wrist spinner was not even picked in India’s Test team for the Gabba Test match despite the absence of main spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep received one game in the four-match Test series against England and picked up two wickets.
But once again he didn’t have a good run in the limited overs series. As expected he was not picked for the tour of England and Kuldeep will look to turn the tables in Sri Lanka.
Kuldeep Yadav said while talking to Telegraph, “This Sri Lanka tour is very, very important because, first of all, I’m not a part of the Test squad (in England). And secondly, this is one good opportunity to play and perform. Thereafter, we’ve got the IPL as well, which gives me another opportunity to be back in the reckoning.”
Kuldeep added he will have a good chance to come back into the squad if he performs well in Sri Lanka. The Uttar Pradesh spinner added that he is not thinking about his place for the T20 World Cup.
“Nothing parallels performance, and if I perform, I know I’ll definitely be back. Honestly, I’m not thinking much about a T20 World Cup berth now because it eventually boils down to how well I keep doing. There’s healthy competition in the squad, so I know what my job is.”
Kuldeep will look to grab his opportunity and he will look to make the most of his experience. The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka will take place at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on 13th July.
