Ind vs Eng 2021: India put us on the back foot from the start – Eoin Morgan

The England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan admitted that the Indian team had them on the ropes from the beginning of the second T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday, which the visitors lost by seven wickets.

England lost the early wicket of their talisman wicket-keeper batsman, Jos Buttler, for a blob and the tourists couldn’t quite recover from there.

Jason Roy played well but the English opener got out at the wrong time for 46 when he was looking settled for a big score. The Indian bowlers did a fantastic job in restricting the visitors to a sub-par score of 164 runs and conceded only 35 runs in the last five overs.

The hosts were able to strike at regular intervals and they were able to control the game after winning the toss. Meanwhile, India got off to a poor start with the bat as they lost KL Rahul in the very first over but Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli were relentless as they added 94 runs in 54 balls.

Morgan admitted that his team was not up to the mark and they were outplayed by the hosts on Sunday.

Morgan said in the post-match presentation, “We were probably in and around par, but India bowled well and there’s slightly less pace today on the pitch. They put us on the back foot from the start and pace off the ball is always challenging for players. I am glad we played on this wicket, but a little disappointed with the way we played. There’s always an advantage in chasing statistically and the disappointing area is we couldn’t counter the opposition attack in the first ten overs. The two guys at the top always try and are aggressive as they can and stick with the process. We were always gonna miss him and hopefully, he will be fit before the next game. We will be practicing and the next game is on red soil and there might be more turn”.

India was able to dominate the second game and the hosts will aim to continue the impetus, which they have on their side. The Virat Kohli-led team had lost the first game but they bounced back in style in the second match.

Meanwhile, England will look to come up with a better batting display in the third T20I. Morgan will want his batters to convert their starts into a big score as none of the batsmen was able to go past the 50-run mark in the second match.
