England captain Jos Buttler shared his disappointment after they suffered the series loss against India by 4-1. The visitors suffered a huge 150-run loss in the fifth T20I at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
India posted an above-par score of 247 runs on the board after Jos Buttler decided to field first. Abhishek Sharma scored a scintillating knock of 135 runs off just 54 balls with the help of seven fours and 13 sixes as he batted at the top of his game to score more than half of his team’s runs.
The left-hander reached his fifty off just 17 balls, becoming the second-fastest Indian batter to reach the personal milestone after his guru Yuvraj Singh. The southpaw continued batting in the top-most gear as he took English bowlers to the cleaners.
Buttler showered praise on Abhishek, stating it was one of the best batting displays he has witnessed in T20 cricket.
Jos Buttler said in the post-match presentation “We’re disappointed to lose the series. We’ve done some things well, and some things to improve on. India are a fantastic side, especially at home. Our guys will be better for the experience. Some of the bowling performances – even today, Brydon Carse and Mark Wood were outstanding. Abhishek Sharma – I’ve seen a lot of cricket and that was as good a batting I’ve seen in T20 today.”
Meanwhile, England’s veteran batter Joe Root will join the ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series and Buttler is looking forward to the series.
Buttler concluded, “Obviously a great guy to welcome back into the squad (Root). One of the best players in the world. Look forward to the ODIs. It’s getting closer and closer to T20s, isn’t it? Going to be a great series against a top side.”
The first ODI between India and England will be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur on Thursday.
