Jamshedpur FC secured a commanding 3-1 victory over FC Goa in an Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 clash at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Sunday. The win not only propelled Jamshedpur to second place in the standings but also saw their head coach, Khalid Jamil, make history as the first manager to complete a league double over FC Goa’s Manolo Marquez in the ISL.
Jamshedpur now sits at 34 points, one ahead of FC Goa, who drop to third with 33 points. The victory further solidifies Jamil’s tactical prowess, following their earlier 2-1 win over Goa in September.
Jamshedpur FC started strong, and their attacking intent paid off in the 34th minute. Lazar Cirkovic unleashed a stunning shot into the top right corner after a brief exchange with Javi Hernandez. The Serbian defender’s precise effort left Goa goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari with no chance.
The home side quickly capitalized on their momentum, doubling the lead just three minutes later. Mohammed Sanan dribbled past defenders inside the box and fired a shot towards goal. While Tiwari managed to block it, Javi Siverio was perfectly positioned to tap in the rebound in the 37th minute, putting Jamshedpur firmly in control.
Despite being down, FC Goa responded before halftime with a well-worked goal. Brison Fernandes delivered a precise pass to Ayush Dev Chhetri, who struck a powerful shot into the bottom right corner, reducing the deficit to 2-1 in the 45th minute.
FC Goa looked determined to find an equalizer in the second half. In the 57th minute, Mohammed Yasir and Sahil Tavora combined brilliantly near the Jamshedpur box. Tavora’s pass found Yasir in a promising position, but his shot from the middle of the box rattled the crossbar, denying Goa a crucial goal.
However, Khalid Jamil’s tactical substitution in the 58th minute proved decisive. He brought on Mobashir Rahman for Sourav Das, a move that tilted the match in Jamshedpur’s favor.
In the 68th minute, Jamshedpur earned a corner, and Mobashir’s well-placed delivery found Siverio, who rose highest to head the ball into the top left corner. The Spanish forward’s second goal of the night sealed the 3-1 win, giving Jamshedpur a crucial three points in their pursuit of the ISL title.
Khalid Jamil’s ability to outwit Manolo Marquez twice in the same season highlights his growing reputation in the ISL. His timely substitutions and attacking strategy were key in Jamshedpur’s success.
With this win, Jamshedpur FC has momentum on their side as they look to maintain their position at the top end of the table. Meanwhile, FC Goa will need to regroup quickly to avoid slipping further in the standings.
