Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has backed Kuldeep Yadav to savor success in the long formats as the latter has this amazing quality to bowl the repetitive lengths in long formats. Yadav recently made a return to the Indian squad in the ODI series against South Africa.
The wrist spinner has taken two wickets in two matches against the Proteas and he has conceded his runs at an economy rate of 5.18.
Yadav got a lot of turn in the first ODI and he was able to make the most of the favorable conditions on offer. The left-arm spinner has worked on his action, which has helped him in improving his accuracy in the recent past.
Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Ashwin said, “I have always felt this about Kuldeep Yadav when we talk about wrist spinners. He has got this amazing feature to bowl the repetitive lengths that are required to do well in the long format.
“He can land in a particular spot whenever he wants, and that’s a fantastic quality for a wrist spinner. That’s a massive value for a wrist spinner.”
On the other hand, Ashwin believes Shardul Thakur can deliver for the team with both bat and ball. Thakur had scalped two wickets in the first ODI against the Proteas and had also scored 33 runs. The right-hander also added a fine stand with Sanju Samson to give a ray of hope to the Indian team.
“He can make things happen with both bat and ball. He picked wickets and scored runs too during the backend of the game when we were really struggling. He stitched a vital partnership with Sanju Samson.”
The third and final ODI between India and South Africa will be played in Delhi on Tuesday.
