India’s talisman batter Suryakumar Yadav has revealed there is a method to his madness in the middle and he does a lot of hard work behind the scenes in the training sessions. SKY scored a mind-blowing knock of 112 runs off just 51 balls with the help of seven fours and nine sixes in his blistering knock in the third T20I against Sri Lanka at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on Saturday.
Once again, it was a trademark SKY’s innings as he was able to hit the ground running. The Mumbai batter played the field and reached his third T20I century off just 45 balls, the second-fastest for India in the shortest format of the game.
Furthermore, SKY became the first batter to score three T20I centuries while not batting as an opener. The 32-year-old took Sri Lankan bowlers to the cleaners as he once again brought his best to the table.
Yadav’s whirlwind knock helped India in posting an above-par score of 228 runs on the board after Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bat first. The home team went on to win by a gargantuan margin of 91 runs and clinched the series by 2-1.
SKY was awarded the Player of the Match for scoring a fine knock as he once again stunned one and all with his impressive strokeplay.
Suryakumar Yadav said after he awarded the Player of the Match, “It’s really important to put pressure on yourself when you are preparing for a game. If you do that in practice, it gets a little easier while playing the game. There is a lot of hard work involved but it’s about doing quality practice sessions. You should know what your game is and prepare accordingly. Boundaries behind are like 50-60 meters, so I was targeting them. There are some shots that are pre-determined but you need to have other shots too so that if the bowler changes his plan, you can have an answer. He (Dravid) just lets me enjoy myself. He tells me to just enjoy and express myself.”
SKY has been in dream form in the T20I format and it is a difficult job for the bowlers to bowl against him as he is so unpredictable with his strokeplay.
The talisman will look to continue the good show in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The first ODI will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Tuesday.
