Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri believes Sanju Samson has the power to clear any ground in the world. Samson is known to be a pure timer of the ball and he has the skills to clear the boundaries at will.
The flamboyant batter’s batting prowess was on display at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Tuesday against Sunrisers Hyderabad as he scored a quickfire knock of 55 runs off just 27 balls.
The RR captain was able to hit the ground running and played all across the field. The right-hander from Kerala scored three fours and five sixes in his blistering knock as he scored his runs at a strike rate of more than 200.
Samson has over the years shown great talent and he needs to be more consistent in his batting. The 27-year old was playing his 100th match for Rajasthan Royals and he played a key role in helping his team post 210 runs on the board. Thus, he was awarded the Player of the Match for his fine knock.
“Once again Sanju Samson, he batted beautifully. I think his shot selection was really good. He realized the pace of the wicket was such that the ball was not turning, he looked for the straight boundaries. He used the pace of the deliveries by getting into good positions and he has got the power to clear any ground in the world,” Shastri said on Star Sports during the mid-innings show.
“He likes batting in Pune, he scored a century earlier here in the IPL. Even today, he looked in outstanding touch, had he been there for 5 overs, maybe (RR would have scored) 230. He showed the aggression that was needed and it was a good partnership with Devdutt Padikkal,” the former Team India coach further stated.
Samson was at his best for Rajasthan Royals in their opening match of the season and the RR skipper will look to keep leading from the front. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have a potent bowling line-up and they can go far this season.
Rajasthan Royals will next lock horns against Mumbai Indians at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Saturday.
