The 30th match of the Indian Premier League between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore is set to get postponed amid the Covid-19 scare.
The Board of Control is expected to come up with an official announcement soon on the matter. It is reported that the postponement is done because of a couple of players tested positive in the KKR camp.
According to ANI, Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakravarthy have been tested positive for Covid-19. According to reports one of these players went to the hospital to get some tests done but is expected to catch the virus there. However, apart from these two players, the remaining KKR players have been tested negative.
In fact, there have been a lot of speculations whether the IPL should continue in these testing times. India has been hit hard by the second wave of Covid-19 as more than 400000 cases are getting reported on a daily basis.
Question marks were raised after foreign players like Andrew Tye, Kane Williamson, Adam Zampa and Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin decided to back out from the tournament. However, the BCCI confirmed that the IPL will continue.
The new date of the match will be announced on Monday afternoon, Gujarat Cricket Association members have been told.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a good start to their season as they have won five matches out of the seven they have played and are currently at the third place in the points table with 10 points under their bag.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders have failed to get going as they have managed only two matches out of the seven they have played and thus are struggling at the seventh place in the points table with four points.
