Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has revealed that Prithvi Shaw will not available for the next two league stage matches for the franchise. Shaw has missed the last three matches for Delhi Capitals as he has been suffering from high fever.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant had recently said that Shaw has contracted typhoid. Meanwhile, Shaw’s unavailability is a huge blow for Delhi Capitals as he has the skills to hit the ground running and makes a potent pair with David Warner.
In his absence, Mandeep Singh and KS Bharat have opened the innings but both of them have failed to deliver the goods. The talented batter from Mumbai has scored 259 runs in nine matches at an average of 28.78 and a blistering strike rate of 159.87.
“I don’t know his diagnosis exactly,” Watson told the Grade Cricketer. “But he has just had this underlying fever for the previous couple of weeks, which they’ve had to really get to the bottom of it to find out exactly what it was.
“It’s not looking great for him to be available for the last couple of games, which is a big shame because he is an incredibly skillful young batter, taking the best bowlers in the world down a lot of the time.”
“It’s a big loss for us to not have him. For the last couple of weeks, he has been under the weather. Hopefully, he gets back to full health soon, but unfortunately, it’s not going to be in time for the minimum of the last two games that we’ve got.”
Shaw had last played for Delhi Capitals against Lucknow Super Giants on May 1 and was dismissed after scoring only five runs.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have won six and lost as many out of the 12 matches they have played and it will be important for them to win their remaining two games to have a chance of qualifying for the playoff stages.
Delhi Capitals will hope to make it to the last four and then Shaw can also return to the playing XI. DC will next face Punjab Kings on Monday at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
