West Indies hard-hitter Rovman Powell was roped in for INR 2.8 Crores by Delhi Capitals in IPL mega auction. Powell had recently impressed with his pyrotechnics in the recent T20I series against India.
The right-hander scored 95 runs in three T20Is against India at an average of 47.50 and a strike rate of 179.25.
Pant was seeing Powell smash the Indian bowlers in the second T20I at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The Windies batter had scored 68 runs off just 36 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes in the second game.
Pant had also scored 52 runs off just 28 balls in the same match and he was awarded the Player of the match for his fine batting. The wicket-keeper batter had heaped praise on Rovman Powell and had said he was hitting bullets out there.
Rovman Powell said in an interaction with Delhi Capitals social media team, “It’s been very good to be in the Delhi Capitals camp. I have heard a lot of good things about this franchise. The players have welcomed me with open arms. I had a chat with Rishabh during the T20 series in Kolkata as well. He told me that he is excited to have me in the Delhi Capitals team.”
On the other hand, Powell is excited to play under the tutelage of Ricky Ponting. The former Australian skipper has done a fine job for the franchise as Delhi has made it to the playoff stages in the last two seasons.
“As a child I watched Ricky Ponting bat a lot. We know the type of leader he was when he captained the Australian team and I think he is the same type of leader as a coach as well. He is really good and, hopefully, I can learn a thing or two from him.”
Delhi Capitals also roped in KS Bharat as a backup wicket-keeper batter. Bharat is also looking forward to the new season with all the gusto.
“I am looking forward to a fantastic season as a unit. It’s been good to interact with some of the players during our first training session as well. I am looking to keep things simple and follow my process this season.”
Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL 2022 campaign by taking on Mumbai Indians on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
