Lucknow Super Giants were handed a major blow when they got to know that their speedster Mohsin Khan, who performed exceptionally well last season is doubtful to play any part in this season Indian Premier League. Even LSG head coach Andy Flower feels that it is a major blow for the franchise
The young pacer may miss the entirety of the season of the season as he nurses from a shoulder injury. Mohsin has been out of action even in domestic cricket. In fact he has not taken the field after LSG were beaten in the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
As per ESPNCricinfo’s reports he had gone under the knife to remove blood clots in his left shoulder. He struggled with the issue for some time and was in discomfort majorly in the later half of last year.
Mohsin was one of the bright young prospect from IPL last season. He played only nine matches for LSG and scalped 14 wickets at an average of 14.07 and an economy rate of 5.97. He was important to LSG’s plans of reaching the playoffs lasts season.
Speaking in a media interaction Flower mentioned that he is not expecting Mohsin to make a late return to the action this season. He is mentally prepared that he wil have to set his plans without the young Uttar Pradesh pacer. However he believes that his return will be a major morale boost for the team.
“It is a blow not having him (Mohsin Khan), there is no doubt about that. We are hoping that he might come good towards the end of the tournament.”
He then highlighted that he is not expecting a return of Mohsin this season especially due to condition of the injury. “But, quite frankly, I had pretty much written him off as a selection option, and if he becomes fit at some stage during the tournament, I see that very much as a bonus. But I am certainly not expecting that,” Flower stated.
LSG will play in front of their home crowd for the first time in IPL history. The Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow is their home ground or the season. They will start their season on April 1 when they will host Delhi Capitals.
