Mohammad Amir says Jasprit Bumrah’s absence will weaken India’s Champions Trophy squad by 50%

Pakistan’s former fast bowler Mohammad Amir believes India’s Champions Trophy squad will be weakened by almost half in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. As per the latest reports, Bumrah is expected to miss the group stages of the Champions Trophy.

The Indian gun fast bowler suffered a back injury in the fifth Test against Australia at the SCG and didn’t bowl in the second innings after the visitors had set a target of 162 for the hosts.

Bumrah is in prime form as he bagged 32 wickets in five Test matches at an amazing average of 13.06. The ace pacer is currently the best fast bowler across formats and his absence will definitely leave a huge void.

Mohammad Amir said while talking to TOI, “It will be a huge loss to India if Bumrah isn’t there. He has been a top bowler for India, leading the pack from the front. Without him, the Indian bowling attack is reduced to 40-50 percent of its strength.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan are in good form as they registered a 3-0 win against South Africa while playing away. Amir reckons Pakistan will have the upper hand against India considering their form but admitted the latter is always the favorite in big tournaments.

“The way Pakistan has played recently — defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa — shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Considering their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India. However, India has always been my favorite in big tournaments. But the Indian team is under pressure and facing severe criticism due to their recent defeats,” the left-arm pacer commented.

Indian selectors are expected to announce the Champions Trophy squad on January 18-19. India will take on Pakistan in the high-octane clash on 23rd February at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
