Former Indian batter Mohammed Kaif has urged Indian bowlers to target Travis Head’s weakness in the third Border-Gavaskar trophy Test against Australia. Head once again proved to be a headache for the Indian bowlers as he smashed a blistering knock of 140 runs off just 141 balls in the second-pink Test at Adelaide, which the home team won by 10 wickets.
The left-hander was able to hit the ground running and the Indian bowlers looked toothless after he got past the 50-run mark. Head played an instrumental role in helping Australia take a healthy lead of 157 runs in the first innings and put their noses in front.
Kaif wants Indian bowlers to test Head around the off-stump line in the upcoming Test. The visitors’ bowlers didn’t bowl many bumpers to the southpaw, which is his Achilles Heel.
Kaif, who played a match-winning knock in the Natwest Trophy final against England, noted that if Scott Boland can have a plan for Virat Kohli, why can’t Indian bowlers do the same for Travis Head, who has been India’s nemesis in the past.
“If Boland knows how to trap Kohli then why can’t we do the some for Travis Head?If his weakness is outside the off-stump, why don’t we consistently bowl there? Every batsman has weaknesses. Everyone knows Virat Kohli’s weakness. You bowl it outside the off-stump and he will nick it. You’ll need to adopt the same strategy against Travis Head as well. You need to move ahead with proper planning. You need to attack him from the first ball; you need to make a fixed plan to exploit his weakness, and then you can get him out,” said Kaif in a video shared on his social media handles.
Head has a terrific record against India and his wicket will be a prized one for the tourists. The third Test match between India and Australia will be played at the Gabba, Brisbane from December 14.
