The captain of the Indian team Virat Kohli is no stranger to aggression and frenetic passion on the field. Kohli is an absolute livewire who wears his heart on his sleeves and leaves everything out on the pitch.
Over the last few years in his tenure as captain, Kohli has moulded an exciting and intimidating pace attack that is now regarded as one of the best in the world. Bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan, Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav, and Ishant Sharma have all seen their fair share of the limelight under captain Kohli.
Mohammed Shami, who’s a good friend Virat even outside the pitch, shared in a recent interaction that fast bowlers, old or new, are naturally pretty aggressive and their energy levels remain unmatched by the rest of the members of the squad. However, Kohli is the only exception.
Shami is no different from the rest of the fast bowlers who often celebrate their successes wildly. Though he usually celebrates his wickets with a huge smile of satisfaction on his face and the index finger pointing upwards, he has been expressive on several occasions as well.
In an interesting chat, Shami mentioned that often Kohli celebrates a wicket more than the bowlers.
“Fast bowlers are very aggressive, both old and new. But the one player who could probably emulate their aggression is our own captain! Sometimes, when a picture of Virat’s celebration of a wicket goes viral on social media, I funnily ask him, ‘Was it my wicket or yours?’ He celebrates more than the bowlers! Sometimes he points out that you don’t look too happy with the wicket, so I simply tell him, ‘You did all the celebration for me!’” Shame said as quoted by India TV.
However, the fast bowler also heaped a ton of praise on Virat Kohli for leading the side from the front and helping Team India reach the pinnacle of world cricket on a number of occasions. Commending his skipper’s temperament, Shami added that it is important to have fun on the field.
“But it is important to have fun on the field. Virat shows aggression, obviously, but as a unit, he has led the team brilliantly so far. In addition, he is a very aggressive batsman too,” Shami concluded.
