A video of 100-meter dash between former Indian captain MS Dhoni and rookie all-rounder Hardik Pandya had gone viral in 2017. Dhoni back then was 36 and Pandya had fresh legs. However, as expected, Dhoni had edged past the youngster in the last few seconds of the race.
He was quick, a livewire and proved that age is just a number and he is fit as a fiddle. Former Indian batsman and now a commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has revealed that Dhoni told him during Virat Kohli’s wedding that he would continue to play at the International level till he is beating the team’s fastest sprinter.
However, that statement is of 2017 and things have drastically changed since then. Dhoni last played for the Indian team back in the semi-final contest of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand. Subsequently, he was expected to call it a day from International cricket but he hasn’t made any official announcement.
Dhoni will now return to professional cricket as he would lead Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming Indian Premier League. Consequently, all the eyes will be on MS and it would be interesting to note if he is still beating a team’s youngster in the 100-meter dash.
In fact, Dhoni has always been fit in his entire career and there is no doubt that he must be keeping himself at the top of his fitness. Dhoni also trained at the indoor stadium of JSCA in Ranchi recently.
“During Virat Kohli’s wedding, I had a little corner time with him and he said as long as I am beating the fastest sprinter in the team, I am going to consider myself fit enough to be playing international cricket or playing high-level cricket,” Manjrekar said.
The IPL is all set to begin from September 19 and CSK was trying to reach UAE in the second week of August but they could get a green signal from the IPL GC. The franchise is expected to reach UAE after August 20 after all the players will be tested for Covid-19 in Chennai.
Dhoni will look to get back in the groove and he might take some time before he can find his touch. It would be interesting to note how Dhoni would play as he would return to the game after 14 months.
