Pressure will be put on Babar Azam if he is compared with Virat Kohli – Ravichandran Ashwin

India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has opined that comparing Babar Azam with Virat Kohli will put pressure on the former. Babar Azam is often likened with the Indian stalwart and Ashwin feels it is a tad unfair. It should be noted that Kohli had made his debut back in 2008 whereas Azam made his debut in 2015. Hence, Kohli has more than double the experience of Azam.

Kohli is a giant on the top level as he has scored more 21000 International runs and has 70 centuries to his name. On the other hand, Babar has shown the right promise to go a long way in his career. In fact, Babar has even bettered some of Kohli’s record in his formative years and thus he is compared with Virat Kohli.

In fact, Babar Azam himself recently stated that he doesn’t want to be compared with Virat Kohli and instead would like to be compared with former Pakistan greats like Inzamam-ul-Haq and Younis Khan.

“I really enjoy Babar Azam’s batting. I watched the century he scored in Australia,” Ravichadran Ashwin was quoted as saying by ARY Sports. “Comparisons with Virat Kohli will put pressure on him, which is unfair. Kohli is one of the finest cricketers the world has produced. I am sure Babar’s time will come too,” he explained.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli is the number one batsman in the ICC ODI rankings whereas Babar Azam is placed at the numero uno position in the ICC T20I rankings.

Kohli has been the most consistent batsman in the last decade and he is the solitary batter to average more than 50 in all the three forms of the game. The 25-year old Pakistan batsman has an average of more than 50 in the ODI and T20I format. Babar Azam has also done a fine job for Pakistan but still has a long way to go in his career to be compared with Virat Kohli.

In fact, Pakistan’s batting coach Younis Khan made a good point recently that Babar Azam should be compared with Virat Kohli after five years.
