SA20: Faf du Plessis delighted after win against Durban Super Giants

Joburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis was delighted after a 28-run win against Durban Super Giants at the Kingsmead, Durban on Tuesday in the ongoing SA20. After electing to bat, JSK posted a competitive total of 169 runs on the board.

All the Joburg Super Kings batters, barring Faf du Plessis, contributed to the score with Leus de Plooy top-scoring with 38. Furthermore, Jonny Bairstow and Donovan Ferreira scored 26 runs each whereas Devon Conway added 22 runs.

On the other hand, Durban Super Giants was skittled out for 141 runs in 18 overs. Quinton de Kock top-scored with 55 runs but he was the lone warrior for the team.

Faf du Plessis said after the win, “Last year, the wicket was spin heavy. It looked like a dry surface. I was surprised it was sticky. May be because of the moisture. We thought to be in the game, we needed 160. Two sixes from Gerald at the end were huge. Donovan was hard to hit. Then the spinners came in and picked the wickets. Donovan has been working hard on his own bowling. Always handy to have one of your top five or six who can give you overs. Very happy to come here and win. To come here, we are very very happy to top the table. We were inconsistent with our home and away performances last year.”

On the other hand, Durban Super Giants captain Keshav Maharaj believes they left 15 runs and need to pull up their socks to get the desired results.

Maharaj said after the loss, “We got the balls in the right areas. If I am hyper crictical, we left 15 runs there. Time to reasses and go back to the drawing board. It happens in T20 cricket. Naveen is a champion bowler. We can better in certain periods. The character needs to come through. Glimpses of lot of positives.”

Joburg Super Kings will next take on Pretoria Capitals at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on Thursday.
