Shahid Afridi picks MS Dhoni as better captain than Ricky Ponting

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has picked MS Dhoni as a better captain than Ricky Ponting. Afridi rates Dhoni as a better captain as he believes that the former Indian captain built a new team of youngsters. Meanwhile, Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni are regarded as one of the best captains in the history of the game.

Dhoni led India to glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. Dhoni led India in 332 matches across the three formats in which the team won 178 and lost 120.

The former Indian skipper had a winning percentage of 53.61. MS Dhoni was always known to lead with a calm mind on his shoulders and got the best out of the team in crunch situations.

Dhoni also gave confidence to the young players to make the most of their talent. The wicket-keeper batsman would hardly show any kind of emotions on the field and took some of the best decisions for Indian cricket.

On the other hand, Ricky Ponting led Australia to World Cup wins in 2003 and 2007 World Cup. Ponting who was known for his aggressive captaincy led Australia in 324 matches in which the team won 220 games across formats whereas the side lost 77. Ponting had an impressive win percentage of 67.90.

Ponting always liked to take the challenge against the opposition and he was aggressive in his approach. The former Australian captain was known to take the bull by its horns and the team mostly dominated the other sides during his captaincy tenure.

Shahid Afridi held a Question Answer on Twitter in which one of the fans asked him to pick a better captain between Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni.

The former Pakistan all-rounder replied, “I rate Dhoni a bit higher than Ponting as he developed a new team full of youngsters.”

On the other side, Shahid Afridi selected West Indies legendary batsman Brian Lara and South Africa’s former player AB de Villiers as the two best batsmen he bowled to during his career.
