Sunil Gavaskar feels India wouldn’t have bowled out in 50 overs after drawn Test at Brisbane

Legendary Sunil Gavaskar predicted that India wouldn’t have been bowled out in 50 overs after the third Test match against Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane ended in a stalemate after continuous rain. Australia decided to declare at 89-7 in their second innings to set up a target of 275 runs in 54 overs for India.

However, only 2.1 overs were bowled by the hosts before the match was halted due to poor light. Subsequently, rain once again made an appearance as the match ended in a draw.

Meanwhile, India scored 260 runs in the first innings after facing 78.5 overs after KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja scored fine fifties.

Sunil Gavaskar said on India Today, “No, no, I don’t think India could have been bowled out for the second time in the Test match. Our batting isn’t that pretty, not everybody has been at their best, but we would not have been bowled out in 50 overs. But you have to concede that with 445 runs on the board, Australia had the better of the Test.”

The former Indian captain also showered praise on Jasprit Bumrah for showing resistance with the bat along with Akash Deep to help India avoid the follow-on. The former Indian opener also heaped praise on Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul for showing the ‘resolve’ with the bat in the first innings.

“What I really loved was the resolve shown by your 10th wicket; Jasprit Bumrah is one cricketer that every captain would want in their team, as a bowler, batter, thinker and a complete team man. And he was the one who was guiding Akash Deep as well.

“The resolve shown by KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja will augur well for the remaining two Tests. Remember, India lost in Adelaide in two and a half days. Had they not done well here, the next Tests would also have been gone.”

The fourth Test match between India and Australia will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26th December.
