West Indies captain Kieron Pollard is hopeful that his team can continue to show they are a step above the rest in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.
The Windies are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup and they will look to come up with their best in the forthcoming T20I showpiece.
West Indies has time and again shown that they are a powerhouse in the shortest format of the game and they have a lot of players who can turn the match on its head. The Kieron Pollard-led team has players like Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Dwayne Bravo who can turn the tide for their team.
All these players have X-factors in them and they also have the experience. The Windies also defeated Australia by 4-1 in the recent T20I series but lost to Pakistan by 1-0 in home conditions.
Meanwhile, Kieron Pollard became the first T20 player to achieve the combination of 10,000 runs and 300 wickets.
While speaking to the ICC’s official website, Pollard said: “I just think that the format, we get an opportunity to express ourselves in a short piece of time and that’s something we like to do, we are an exciting bunch of cricketers. But having said that, over the years we have gained a lot of knowledge of how to play T20 Cricket and the different sort of changes and what is needed at different times in order to be successful.”
‘We’re looking forward to the T20 World Cup against and hopefully, we can, you know, show our worth and continue to prove that when it comes to T20, we may be a step above the rest.”
On the other hand, West Indies is the solitary team that has won T20 World Cup on two occasions. The Caribbean nation always brings their best in the shortest format of the game and they are always a force to be reckoned with.
West Indies will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against England at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 23rd October.
