Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram revealed everyone in Pakistan was worried about Rishabh Pant after his horrific car accident. Pant suffered serious multiple injuries but has made a prolific comeback at the top level.
Pant scored 446 runs in 13 matches of IPL 2024 at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40 and finished as DC’s highest run-getter after making a comeback.
Ergo, Pant was added to India’s T20 World Cup squad. Pant was backed by Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma to bat at number three and scored 171 runs in eight matches at an average of 24.43 to play an instrumental role in team’s success.
Furthermore, Pant returned with scores of 39 and 109 in the opening Test match against Bangladesh at Chennai.
Wasim Akram said in a media interaction, “Look at Pant’s performance, the miracle that he has performed by showing he is superhuman by returning from his tragedy. The way his accident happened, we were all worried in Pakistan, I was worried and tweeted about him. He came back and averaged 40 in the IPL, 446 runs at a strike rate of 155, he’s a miracle kid.”
The former legendary fast bowler showered praise on Pant’s mental strength as he has had a fantastic comeback to international cricket despite such a huge setback.
“Especially what he has been through in that horrific accident, coming back from that, how mentally strong must that boy be. The way he used to play in Test cricket, the way he performed in Australia with the century then. The way he batted against England, playing a reverse-sweep against Anderson in Test cricket, even Cummins. He’s special.”
The second Test match between India and Bangladesh will be played at Green Park, Kanpur from September 27.
