Australia’s swashbuckling batter Travis Head has backed Jasprit Bumrah to go down as probably one of the greatest fast bowlers to play the game. Bumrah returned with figures of 8-72 in the opening Test against Australia, which India comprehensively by 295 runs at Perth.
The gun fast bowler was awarded Player of the Match for outstanding bowling performance and he has climbed to the number one position in the ICC Test rankings.
Bumrah bagged 5-30 in the first innings and then had 3-42 in the second essay. The ace pacer also dismissed Head in the second innings after the left-hander top-scored for Australia with 89 runs.
“Jasprit will go down as probably one of the greatest fast bowlers to play the game. I think we’re finding that at the moment how challenging he can be, and it’s nice to play against that. It’s going to be nice to go back and look at your career and go tell the grandkids that you faced him. So not a bad series of playing with him. Hopefully I’ll face a few more times, but he is challenging,” Head told reporters before the second Test.
Head is optimistic of making a comeback in the series, stating there have been numerous teams who have bounced back despite losing the series opener.
“Over the last couple of years, there’s a lot of teams that lost the first Test or gone down in the series and brought it back and played really well. We’ve had some challenging times and a couple of challenging Tests last year,” Head said in the same interaction.
“We didn’t have a very good week. That’s fine. But we have got four more opportunities to do it, we will crack on as we do, as we have done for the last few years. This team has dealt with adversity well. The small amount that we have had in the last three or four years, we have played well,” he concluded.
The second Test match between Australia and India, which will be a pink-ball game, will be played at Adelaide Oval from December 6 onwards.
