Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar has heaped praise on Suryakumar Yadav for his impressive form in the recent past. Manjrekar feels there isn’t a line or length or certain pace that can keep Yadav at bay. SKY is known to score all the around the ground and he can play accordingly to the field, which is set up for him.
The right-hander has been rising through the ranks since he has made his International debut. The 31-year-old from Mumbai scored a match-winning knock of 76 runs in the third T20I against the West Indies off just 43 balls. Thus, he played a key role in helping his team chase down 165 runs and take a 2-1 lead.
Yadav is known to hit the ground running and he was able to score at a brisk pace. The right-hander has an impressive strike rate and he grabbed his chance to open the innings with both hands.
Furthermore, after his impressive run in the recent past, Yadav climbed to the second spot in the ICC T20I rankings and he is only two points away from matching, Babar Azam, who is at the top of the table.
Sanjay Manjrekar wrote in his tweet, “Surya’s growth as batter in the last 5 years or so has been just phenomenal! Few years back flick over square leg was his one ‘go to’ shot. Now, he has several. There isn’t a length or line or certain pace that can keep him quiet.”
On the other hand, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra is surprised with team management’s decision to open the innings with Suryakumar Yadav.
“When you have openers like Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, then why are you tinkering with Suryakumar’s confidence? Now, Suryakumar Yadav won’t play against Zimbabwe. He will play in the Asia Cup where he might not open.”
Chopra continued: “Now, whether Pant is an opener or in the middle-order is not certain, while Suryakumar, who was certainly a middle-order batter, is now made to open.”
There is no doubt that India has a plethora of options at the top of the order and they have experimenting with their opening slots.
The fourth T20I between India and West Indies will take place at Florida on Saturday.
