Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer doesn’t want the think tank to rest Jasprit Bumrah in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah bagged two wickets (2-6) in the opening game against Ireland and returned with impressive figures of 3-14 in the high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Bumrah was at his lethal best as he accounted for Pakistan captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Iftikhar Ahmed. The gun fast bowler also bowled 15 dot balls in his quota of four overs. Thus, Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Match in the first two matches of the T20I showpiece. However, Bumrah went wicketless in the match against the USA on Wednesday.
Bumrah played 13 matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 and bagged 21 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.48.
Meanwhile, with a seven-wicket win against the USA, the Indian team sealed their qualification for Super 8 stage. Ergo, Bumrah could be rested for the last group stage match against Canada on Sunday.
“The more Bumrah keeps playing, the more he will be in rhythm. You do not want Bumrah to lose his rhythm, such an important player. So I do not think it is needed to rest him.”
Jaffer also shed light if India is getting the advantage of knowing their semifinal venue. The former domestic giant quashed such claims and said it is crucial for the team to adjust to the conditions.
“Even when you know what venue you’re going to play at, it doesn’t matter. You have to perform well on the day. India have started their campaign in tough conditions in New York. You have brought four spinners but these are different conditions so definitely it is not an advantage.”
India will next take on Canada at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday.
