Andrey Chernyshov analyses loss against Kerala Blasters FC, says they were not up to mark in second half

Mohammedan SC head coach Andrey Chernyshov has shed light on 0-3 loss against Kerala Blasters FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kochi in the ongoing Indian Super League on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Mohammedan SC goalkeeper Bhaskar Roy scored an own goal when he punched Adrian Luna’s corner into his own goal. Subsequently, Noah Sadaoui and Alexandre Coeff scored for the Yellow Tuskers to help the home team bag all three points.

Meanwhile, the visitors had 45.4% possession and took two shots on target.

“Congratulations to Kerala Blasters FC; they won this match. They were better in the second half; they scored the first goal. But it was a nice atmosphere to play football, with 25,000-30,000 people coming to watch the game and support them,” Chernyshov said in the post-match press conference.

“We played well in the first half. We played with discipline. We played very well in defense. We tried to go in a faster counterattack. But the first half was really not bad for us. But after this serious mistake, we went a little bit down,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Kolkata-based club has managed only five goals in 12 matches whereas they have conceded 22 goals and thus have a poor goal difference of -17.

Speaking on their goal-scoring woes, the Russian manager, “When one quality team like Kerala Blasters FC got more confidence and more power after scoring the first goal, it was very difficult to play. But we did all that we had. We brought new players into the game. We tried to change this situation.”

“When you do not score, you cannot win the matches. Now it’s a really big problem for us to score. When we start to score, then I think the situation will be better for us,” Chernyshov signed off.

Mohammedan SC will next take on Odisha FC at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata on Friday.
