FC Bengaluru United have roped in former Churchill Brothers striker Luka Majcen

According to reports on Khel Now, former Churchill Brothers striker Luka Majcen has joined FC Bengaluru United for the upcoming I-League Qualifiers. The Bangalore based outfit failed to make the cut in the I-League last season and hence they are looking to enter the qualifiers well prepared.

The report suggests that Majcen joined Churchill Brothers for the I-League last season on a one year deal. The Slovenian striker has been a free agent since and recently he agreed to join Bengaluru United when he approached him. He has signed a short term deal till  September which will be extended if they qualify for the I-League.

Majcen has been impressed with the club’s approach, the path they want to follow and also the facilities that they have at their club.

The 31-year-old marksman started his professional career for NK Interblock Ljubljana back in his native land. He has had stints with Slovenian clubs like NK Ivancna Gorica, NK Rudar Velenje, FC Koper, ND Gorica, NK Krka and NK Triglav Kranj. He has mostly plied his trade in the second tier of Slovenian football. The move to Churchill Brothers was his first move out of his country as a footballer. So it was a bold call but Majcen did complete justice to skills.

The 31-year-old was influential in Churchill Brothers’ early dominance in the I-League last season. He finished the season with 11 goals along with two assists for the Red Machines. Majcen finished the season as the second highest joint top scorer with Gokulam Kerala’s Dennis Antwi and only a goal less than the Golden Boot winner, TRAU’s Bidyasaghar Singh.

The Slovenian was one of the best forwards in the I-League last season. He showed great physicality and can hold the ball up for his teammates in attack. He has great goalscoring instincts and his movements in the box may often leave opposition defenders rattled.

Bengaluru United definitely have snapped up a proper no. 9 for the qualifiers and if they manage to qualify for the I-League then the Slovenian will remain with the side for the entirety of the season.

Speaking of the I-League qualifiers, the AIFF Committee have approved Bengaluru as the venue for the qualifiers. The tournament will take place in September with a maximum of 10 teams participating.
