ISL: A Look at the top goalscorers at the end of the league stage

The league stage of the Indian Super League this season turned out to be quite an interesting one.

While two teams — FC Goa and ATK — kept dominating throughout the season, as many as three teams kept fighting for a semi-final berth until the penultimate game of the league. We saw a lot of goals being scored as well, mainly due to the influx of quality players from foreign leagues. So, here, we take a look at the highest goalscorers from the League stage of the 2019/20 season of the ISL.

Bartholomew Ogbeche – 15 Goals

The Frenchman carried his lethal form for NorthEast United FC from last season to his new team Kerala Blasters FC in this season as well. Ogbeche ended up at the top of the list of players with most goals at the end of the 2019/20 league stage. He scored 15 goals in a total of 16 outings for the Blasters but the lack of support from most other members of the team saw Kerala finishing as low as the seventh spot in the table.

Ferran Corominas – 14 Goals

After topping the goalscoring charts last season, the Spaniard looks all set to finish as the highest goalscorer of this season once again. Corominas is already the joint second highest goalscorer of the season at the end of the League stage and we can expect him to score more goals as FC Goa have already made their way into the semi-finals. His sense of positioning, trickery, pace and clean finishing skills make him a deadly weapon even against the best of defences.

Roy Krishna – 14 Goals

The Fiji international has made his mark on the ISL in his very first season. Krishna arrived at ATK after being the top scorer in the 2018/19 season of the A-League while playing for the Wellington Phoenix. And he continued his goalscoring spree for ATK too as he amassed 14 goals during his 18 outings for the club during the league stage. Krishna showed why he is rated so highly and he would be eager to carry his form into the all important semi-finals as well.

Nerijus Valskis – 13 Goals

The Lithuanian striker made an impact in his debut ISL season just like Krishna. Valskis carried the load of the Chennaiyin attack on his own shoulders as the other players failed to make an impact during the initial part of the season. And he became far more lethal when the entire team started to find the right rhythm and synchronization. Valskis’ form towards the latter part of the league stage was one of the main reasons behind Chennaiyin’s qualification for the semi-finals.
