SC East Bengal head coach Robbie Fowler wants to make his team as competitive as possible in their maiden season of the Hero Indian Super League. Fowler also heaped praise on the improvement of the league in the last six years since its inception back in 2014.
East Bengal has a huge legacy and it would be interesting to note if they can hit the ground running in their first season of the ISL. The team would aim to tick the right boxes and deliver the consistent performances for their fans.
The Englishman is delighted to get the opportunity to coach SC East Bengal and he revealed he will try to get the best out of every player.
“The opportunity to coach this team (SC East Bengal) in their first Hero ISL season is brilliant. The ISL is a league I have looked out for many years and when it first started. Football has been getting better over the years. Every year the competition gets stronger. My aim with SC East Bengal this year is to get as competitive as we can and try to do as well as we can in the league,” Fowler said.
Fowler is aware that SC East Bengal has a rich history in the Indian football and he is looking forward to the opportunity of taking the team to new heights in the upcoming ISL.
On the other hand, Fowler added that it is going to be a slow process and they are going to take one game at a time. SC East Bengal has roped in exciting young talent like Yumnam Gopi Singh and N Rohen Singh and Fowler will aim to help them grow in confidence.
Furthermore, East Bengal is going to depend on the shoulders of their foreign players like Danny Fox, Anthony Pilkington and Jacques Maghoma. Fowler added that he expects these players to deliver the goods and that’s why the club has signed them.
“We wanted to build a competitive team and players who are comfortable getting the ball when there are players around. We never just signed because of the good names, all these players are good players,” he said.
East Bengal will be looking to come up with complete performances in their maiden season and Robbie Fowler will play a major role. The former Liverpool player will aim to guide the players on the right track.
The ISL 2020-21 will begin from November 21.
