Chennaiyin FC, two-times ISL champions have secured the services of Brazilian defender Emerson Gomes de Moura, also known as Memo, the club announced on Sunday. Moura will make the move from Jamshedpur FC, where he played in the last three seasons.
Memo has joined hands with Chennaiyin FC after the completion of three-year contract with Jamshedpur FC. The Brazilian defender is delighted to be joining the previous season runners-up and he is optimistic of having a good season.
The seventh season of the ISL will be played behind closed doors and Memo added that the crowd energy will be missed by the players. Moura added that he has felt the passion of the Chennai fans every time he has played in the city.
Speaking about the move, Moura said: “I am delighted to be a part of the blue Chennaiyin family. The upcoming season will be fantastic, I am certain. It is a pity we won’t be able to feel the warmth of the fans in the stands, as they are truly incredible and loyal.”
Meanwhile, Moura has all the experience of playing in the ISL. Moura played his maiden season for Delhi Dynamos in 2016-17 and played his debut match against Chennaiyin FC. He also helped Delhi qualify for the semifinals in that season.
Subsequently, he made a move to Jamshedpur and he was an integral part of the team as he didn’t even miss a single match for the club in three years.
The 32-year old played all the 54 matches for Jamshedpur in the last three years and he would look to continue the same kind of consistency for Chennaiyin FC. Moura made 39 interceptions during the 2018-19 and it was his best performance for Jamshedpur.
Moura has become the second signing for Chennaiyin after the club roped in Bosnian central defender Enes Sipovic. The ISL 2020-21 season will begin from November 21.
