Bengaluru FC head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli lauded his team after they defeated reigning champions Mumbai City FC by a 3-0 margin in the 56th match of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League 2021-22 at the PJN Stadium, Fatorda on Monday. The Blues came up with a dominating performance against a tough team and the German manager was delighted with the collective effort of the team.
Danish Farooq Bhat opened the Bengaluru FC’s account in the eighth minute while Prince Ibara scored a brace as he found the back of the net in the 23rd and 45th minute of the game. Pezzaiuoli added that his team could have scored more in the first half.
In fact, the Blues had a total of seven shots on target as they dominated the whole contest. Mumbai City FC, on the other hand, could only make four attempts on target.
Marco Pezzaiuoli said in the post-match press conference, “Well first of all I’d like to compliment the team. Very good work, I think we could have scored more goals, especially in the first half. We created a lot of chances before half-time to go at least four or five goals in front. Today, lot of goals for us and happy to keep a clean sheet as well. And the other important things this was 90 minutes high pressing and high intensive game. We were aware that the opponent could do the same”.
In fact, Mumbai City FC was winless in their last four matches as they lost two while two of their games ended in a draw before this game. However, Pezzaiuoli added that he doesn’t think his team capitalized on the opponent’s mistakes in the previous four games.
He added, “No, I don’t think so. Normally, I don’t talk about the opponent because we gave them trouble. We invest a lot against them, a very high intensive high-speed game. It was too difficult for them to build up. They want to play football as well and we gave them tough time on the field and that’s why it was a good game”.
On the other hand, Marco Pezzaiuoli heaped praise on Roshan Singh, who has registered three assists thus far in the season.
Bengaluru FC gaffer added, “He’s a both-feet player. You can him play right and left defender. That’s what we know already in the pre-season. I decided today to have him in the back, we decided to attack from the backside. I wanted one striker more and so we can play attacking football. His role was very important today”.
Bengaluru FC will face ATK Mohun Bagan on Saturday at the same venue of PJN Stadium, Fatorda.
