Chennaiyin FC has signed the services of defender Gurmukh Singh on a two-year contract, the club announced on their social media platforms. Singh has put pen to paper on a two-year deal and thus he will stay at the club till the 2024 season.

The 23-year-old from Jalandhar had impressed with his performances while playing for Rajasthan United FC in the I-league and will now show up for Marina Machans. Singh had played an instrumental role in the success of his team when they won the I-league second division in 2021.

Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani welcomed the youngster into the club.

“Gurmukh Singh is a great addition to this squad. We know that he has played a huge role in Rajasthan United’s I-League season which finished with the second-best defensive record in the league. I would like to welcome him to the Chennaiyin family,” said Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani.

Meanwhile, Singh played 10 matches in his debut season in the I-league and also played in six championship matches for the team. Overall, he played a total of 22 matches for the club across all competitions.

Singh said that playing in the Hero ISL was always his dream and he is delighted to join hands with Marina Machans.

“Since I started playing football, playing in the ISL has always been my dream and today with God’s grace that has turned into reality. I am thankful to Chennaiyin FC for placing their trust in me. I assure the club and the fans that I’ll do everything I can to take the club to new heights. Looking forward to the season.” Gurmukh expressed his excitement about joining Chennaiyin FC.

On the other hand, Chennaiyin FC could not qualify for the semifinal stages in the previous season as they only managed five wins in their 20 league stage matches. Thus, they finished at the eighth place in the points table and they will be determined to turn the tables in the next season.
