Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Jose Molina was delighted with team’s performance after a 3-0 win against Hyderabad FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata in the ongoing Indian Super League on Thursday.
In the first ISL match of 2025, Sapic scored an own goal in the ninth minute to put the opposition in front. Tom Aldred gave a 2-0 lead to his team before the first-half whistle whereas Jason Cummings scored after the break to put the game to bed against the Nawabs.
The Mariners had 45% possession and took eight shots on target against the visitors.
“The plan is similar in every match we play. We have to go to win the match from the beginning, from the first minute. Sometimes the plan works better than other days, you know. But usually, it’s working well, right? And today we could score in the first minutes, we had a lot of chances to score, to dominate the game. It’s true that they have some chances at the end, in the last minutes of the game they had some chances to score too,” Molina said, reflecting on the team’s strategy during the post-match press conference.
The Spaniard was happy with the team’s performance but admitted there is scope for improvement for the upcoming matches.
“I think we did a great job, a great match. We scored three goals, we could have scored many more goals. It’s the only point I can have, I can be disappointed with our performance… We are going to have some days off now, and after that start to work hard for the next match,” he said.
Molina acknowledged the challenges and importance of the upcoming clash, stating: “This has to be a big match. Hopefully, we can recover some of the players who are still injured. If not, we have enough players, and I am not going to cry because some players are not available.”
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will next take on derby rivals East Bengal FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata on 11th January.
