After FC Goa’s midfielder Hugo Boumous made an announcement of his exit from the India Super League club earlier this week, which was later debunked by the club yesterday, reports are emerging that the French Born player could move to Mumbai City FC.
A sum of Rs 1.6 Crore is what Mumbai City are said to be ready to part with to bring in the player who won the Golden Ball award in the India Super League last season after scoring contributing 10 goals in 15 matches, including 15 assists.
The player last season penned a contract extension of three years, meaning he currently has two years left on his Goa contract.
Goa FC has recently seen an exodus of players after Sergio Lobera left his post as the coach of the side to join the islanders.
The tactician is keen to work with players who he once worked with, and Boumous is said to be top of the category with City Football Group said to in full financial backing of the club’s effort to purchase the player.
Meanwhile, sources in India say personal terms have been agreed between the club and the player, a development they say may force FC Goa into accepting an offer from Mumbai City.
The record fee paid for a player in the India Super League was the 1 crore paid to Chennai City by Japanese J2 club Albirex Niigata for Pedro Manzi.
Should Boumous deal prove successful, it will be the new record fee for a player in the India Super League. Also, he will be the second player to command a transfer fee in the current transfer window after Manvir Singh moved to ATK-Mohun Bagan for Rs 80 lakhs.
Hugo Boumous has featured for the Moroccan u23 national team, but the 25-year-old is yet to secure a spot a senior national team appearance with the African country.
