SC East Bengal has signed the services of Australian defender Tomislav Mrcela ahead of the eighth season of the Hero Indian Super League. This is Manuel Manolo Diaz’s second signing of the tournament after Brazilian player Romeo Fernandes.
The Aussie joined Perth Glory in the A-league in 2018 on a two-year contract. The lanky defender who is 6 feet 4 inches tall, is well known to make good use of his height to gain an advantage.
During his stint with Perth Glory, the defender won the A-league premiership and played a key role in the success of the team. Mrcela is delighted to join hands with SC East Bengal and looks forward to making a good contribution to the team’s success.
“I’m happy to have signed for SC East Bengal, and I have got good feedback about the club. I have friends who have played in India and also know a thing or two about the club, and they tell me how big it is in this part of the world,” said Tomislav, after putting pen-to-paper for the Red-and-Gold Brigade.
Meanwhile, the seventh season of Hero ISL was SC East Bengal’s maiden stint in the tournament but Robbie Fowler’s team finished at the ninth position after managing only three wins in 20 matches, and thus they will look to turn the tables.
SC East Bengal will begin their ISL 2021-22 campaign against Jamshedpur FC on 21st November at Tilak Maidan Stadium and they will look to come up with a better performance in their second ISL season.
Meanwhile, SC East Bengal coach Diaz has the experience of coaching Real Madrid’s B and C teams in the past and has more than two decades of coaching experience under his belt.
