Javi Martinez will remain at India Super League clubside ATK-Mohun Bagan for one more season after signing an extension with the club.
The Spanish midfielder put pen to paper for a one-year extension with the club ahead of the 2020-2021 India Super League season.
The 31-year-old was a major part of the club’s run to the India Super League title last season, and he will be a key point should the team want to retain their title and compete in the AFC Cup.
The player, after signing the extension, stated that the team’s aim for the new season is to Clinch more titles stating further that he is delighted to have stayed back at the club.
“I am extremely delighted to stay with ATK Mohun Bagan. I cannot wait to meet my teammates and the new boys who have joined this season. Kolkata holds a special place in my heart. The club has given great memories, and the fans have shown me much affection. We want to perform well in the AFC Cup while representing the Green & Maroon. We aim to attain glory once again this year,” Javi Hernandez said.
The foreign players in the team last season, Roy Krishna, David Williams, Edu Garcia, and Carl McHugh, have all been retained, thus making Javi Hernandez, who made five assists from as many games last season, the team’s seventh foreigner.
Brad Inman and Ex-Jamshedpur defender Tiri also moved into the team recently.
The coronavirus pandemic has delayed the new India Super League season, but the league is expected to return in Goa behind closed doors in November.
Mohun Bagan merged with ATK after winning the I-League last season, while their Kolkota rivals East Bengal have made the move too into the ISL after securing an investor.
