Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Jose Molina shared his satisfaction after a goalless draw against Chennaiyin at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai in the ongoing Indian Super League on Tuesday.
The visitors dominated the possession with 70.1% but took only two shots on target. The Mariners had their chances but they could not grab them against the Marina Machans.
“After the Jamshedpur FC match, not too much time was available to recover, and I thought this was the formation for today. And I think it worked,” Molina said at the post-match press conference.
“But it’s true that in the final pass and finishing, we were not successful enough to score, but I think we were absolutely superior on the pitch,” he added.
This was the second consecutive draw for Mohun Bagan Super Giant after they shared a point with Jamshepdur FC. Meanwhile, Molina added the Australian duo of Jamie Maclaren and Jason Cummings on to the pitch in the second half but they also could not find the back of the net despite creating chances.
“In the second half, it was similar, and at the end, in the last minutes, I tried to put our usual formation, with two wingers, with (Jamie) Maclaren inside, and Cummings coming in during the last minutes. Even then, we had some chances in that moment but were still not able to score.
“This one point was not what we were looking for when we came. But, okay, it’s one more point. We’re going to keep working and start thinking about the next match,” stated Molina.
MBSG is at the top of the standings with 37 points after 17 games and the Spaniard said they are going to keep fighting.
“What we did in the last two matches was win two points. We wanted to win six, that’s true. And we only won two. But we won two points.
“And of course, we are going to keep fighting. You know, we knew that it wasn’t going to be easy to win the League Shield. It’s never easy. And we still have some points of difference with the second team,” he commented.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will next take on Bengaluru FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata on Monday.
