Veteran Luka Modric has signed a new Real Madrid deal, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2024-25 season, the club announced on Wednesday. Earlier, the Croatian International had confirmed that he would be staying with the Spanish giants for another year during the club’s Champions League winning celebrations.
“Thank you for your support all year. See you next season!” he told the crowd at the Bernabéu on June 2.
The 38-year-old has won six Champions Leagues and four LaLiga titles with Los Blancos. Modric has lifted a total of 26 trophies since joining the club back in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur.
The veteran midfielder won the Ballon d’Or after taking Croatia to the 2018 World Cup final, which his team lost by 4-2 against France.
Meanwhile, Modric started in only 18 La Liga games and played as a substitute in another 14 matches in the 2023-24 season.
“I’ve never had a problem with Modric,” coach Carlo Ancelotti said this month. “As well as being a top player, one of the best in the world, he’s even more spectacular as a person. We’ve never had a problem, and we never will.”
Modric made a potent trio in the midfield with the likes of Toni Kroos and Casemiro. While Kroos has announced his retirement from professional football, Casemiro moved to Manchester United.
The veteran won three back-to-back Champions League titles in 2016, 2017, and 2018 with Madrid and also played a key role in the 2022 winning run. Modric was used as an impact substitute in the 2023-24 season by Carlo Ancelotti.
In 2023, Modric also received a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League but decided to stay with Madrid for another season.
