NorthEast United Stuns Mumbai City FC with Dominant 3-0 Victory

NorthEast United climbed to the fourth spot in the Indian Super League (ISL) points table after a convincing 3-0 win over Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Monday. Riding on Alaaeddine Ajaraie’s stellar performance, including two crucial goals, the Highlanders delivered a decisive blow to Mumbai City’s unbeaten run.

The match kicked off with an electrifying start for the visitors, as Ajaraie capitalized on a precise pass from Parthib Gogoi to net a close-range goal in the very first minute. Despite dominating ball possession, Mumbai City FC struggled to convert opportunities into goals, with Vikram Partap Singh missing a golden chance in the 24th minute when he failed to connect with a cross inside the box.

Moments later, NorthEast United was awarded a penalty, offering a chance to double their lead. However, Ajaraie’s right-footed attempt was expertly saved by Mumbai’s goalkeeper, drawing cheers from the home crowd and a collective sigh of relief.

The second half saw Mumbai City FC pushing aggressively to equalize, but their efforts were thwarted by a disciplined NorthEast defense. Controversy arose toward the end of the first half when Mumbai players appealed for a penalty, claiming a handball inside the NorthEast box. The referee dismissed their claims, leaving the home side visibly frustrated.

In the final ten minutes, NorthEast United sealed the match in style. Ajaraie redeemed himself in the 83rd minute with a clinical left-footed finish from the center of the box, assisted by Macarton Nickson. Three minutes later, Nickson added to Mumbai’s misery, scoring a well-placed right-footed goal from a similar position, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.

The loss marked the end of Mumbai City FC’s four-game clean sheet streak. Despite their aggressive play, they failed to break through NorthEast United’s resilient defense. The Highlanders, backed by their clinical finishing, celebrated a well-deserved victory.

Result:
Mumbai City FC 0 lost to NorthEast United 3 (Alaaeddine Ajaraie 1’, 83’; Macarton Nickson 86’).

NorthEast United’s win adds fresh excitement to the ISL standings, while Mumbai City FC will look to regroup as they prepare for their next encounter.
