Purushothaman credits players after Kerala Blasters FC win against Chennaiyin FC

Kerala Blasters FC interim head coach TG Purushothaman hailed his players after their comprehensive 3-1 win against Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai in the ongoing Indian Super League on Thursday.

Jesus Jimenez was quick to open the scoring as he found the back of the goal after only three minutes. Korou Singh doubled the visitors’ lead at the stroke of halftime after Marina Machans’ Wilmar Jordan Gil received a red card in the 37th minute.

Kwame Peprah scored the third goal for the tourists in the 56th minute whereas Vincy Barretto scored a consolation goal for the hosts in the injury time. The Yellow Tuskers had 51.7% possession and took five shots on target.

“All credit goes to the players; they did an excellent job,” Purushothaman said in the post-match press conference.

“Whatever we were planning, they implemented it in a great way, and hats off to their performance, and we have to maintain it throughout the season, and we are planning for the next match, so hopefully,” he added.

The gaffer was proud of the players’ effort as they came up with a collective show to secure the desired result.

“I’m proud of the boys’ performance. They did an excellent job; all credit to my players. I’m very happy because as a team they performed well; that’s the only thing I’m satisfied with.”

Kerala Blasters have remained unbeaten in five out of their seven games and Purushothaman urged the players to maintain the good momentum by putting in the hard yards.

“We are trying to make it positive and make the players realise that it’s their job to come up, and they have to feel from inside to play for the badge,” he stated.

“We deserve happiness; that’s the important thing, and we, our families, our fans, and our friends, everyone deserves happiness, so for that we need to maintain the victories. That’s the only thing we need to maintain it, so it’s happening; now we are going through a much tougher time maybe, so let’s see what happens, and we’ll work on it,” he continued.

Kerala Blasters FC will next take on Mohun Bagan Super Giants at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi on 15th February.
