Padma Chorol’s Hat-Trick Seals Maryul Spamo’s Ice Hockey Triumph

On a crisp morning in Ladakh, the buzz around the Royal Enfield Super League’s Women’s Ice Hockey final was palpable as locals gathered at the rink. The energy was electrifying as Maryul Spamo and Changla Lamos faced off in a repeat of last year’s intense championship battle.

The Lamos, runners-up from the previous edition, started with aggression. Their strategy was clear: attack relentlessly, with minimal defensive support. Within minutes, Tsewang Chuskit delivered, finding the net in the 4th minute to thunderous cheers. Seven minutes later, Tsewang struck again, this time off a skillful assist by Disket C Angmo, giving Lamos a commanding 2-0 lead as the first period ended.

However, the defending champions, Maryul Spamo, were far from finished. Their veteran goalkeeper Noor Jahan, who started on the bench, entered the game at the start of the second period. Her presence proved transformative as she made a string of critical saves, denying Lamos any further goals.

Simultaneously, Spamo captain Padma Chorol spearheaded her team’s revival. Against the run of play, Padma launched a counterattack, scoring twice within eight minutes to level the match by the end of the second period. The dramatic turnaround set the stage for a nail-biting final period.

The third period was a tense affair, with both teams battling fiercely for supremacy. Animated discussions filled the benches during breaks, while fans watched in rapt silence, their collective breaths visible in the cold air. Tsewang Chuskit and Padma Chorol—two of Ladakh’s finest ice hockey players—exchanged fierce attempts, but the final say belonged to Padma.

In the 54th minute, amid a chaotic scramble near the goal, Padma slotted the puck past the Lamos’ defense, completing her hat-trick and securing Maryul Spamo’s 3-2 victory. The rink erupted in celebration as Spamo retained their title.

Speaking after the game, an emotional Padma said, “After the first period, our coach reminded us to stay calm and composed. We knew we had two more periods to turn things around, and we believed in ourselves. This win means everything to us.”

The final day of the Ice Hockey League will conclude with the much-anticipated men’s final between Changthang Shans and defending champions Kang Sings, promising yet another exhilarating showdown.

Match Score:

Maryul Spamo 3 (Padma Chorol 27’, 35’, 54’)

Changla Lamos 2 (Tsewang Chuskit 4’, 11’)
