Indian boxers continue their onslaught at the 30th Adriatic Pearl Tournament in Budva, Montenegro. Maintaining the respect for their favourites tag Vinka and T Sanamacha Chanu won two more gold medals in the 60kg and 75kg events respectively.
It was a great penultimate day for the Indians at the tournament as they added 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals to their final tally. Earlier in the tournament, it was Alfiya Pathan who secured the first Gold medal for India in the tournament in his 81+kg event.
Coming back to the penultimate day, the Rohtak based boxer Vinka reigned supreme over her opponent Kristina Kriper from Moldova with a dominant 5-0 in the final. The 75kg category final saw an all Indian clash where Manipuri girl Sanamacha who is hailed as the next big thing in Indian boxing showed great aggression and intent and dominated her opponent Raj Sahiba and won the match comfortably by 5-0.
After being defeated in the finals Sahiba had to satisfy herself with the Silver medal. Indian won another Silver in the women’s category when Gitika despite her valiant fight ended up second best on the night against her Uzbek opponent Farzona Fozilova in the 45-48kg final. Gitika lost with a final score of 1-4.
Another women boxer, Preeti who was competing in the 57kg category went down fighting in the semifinals 1-4 against Montenegro’s Bojana Gojkovic to add a Bronze medal to India’s tally.
Whereas Priyanshu Dabas and Jugnoo who were competing in the 49kg Men’s category had to stay content with Bronze medals as both of them lost in their respective semifinals clashes.
In the 64kg women’s semifinal match, Lucky Rana produced a great 3-0 win over her opponent Gulshoda Istamova from Uzbekistan. She will now feature against Finland’s Lia Pukkila in the final with the hope of clinching another Gold medal for India. However apart from her, there are two women boxers who can still add to the Gold medal tally for India, Babyrojisana Chanu (51kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (69kg) who will also feature in their respective finals.
It has been a great day for Indian boxers as they look to continue their onslaught on the final day at Montenegro.
