Bajrang Punia returns to social media to help people during the Corona crisis

Tokyo-bound ace wrestler Bajrang Punia made a return to social media to help his countrymen who are going through distress over the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Punia took a call in March to deactivate his social media accounts in order to focus more on his training as he aims for that elusive medal at the Tokyo Olympics. He also called social media an unnecessary distraction and hence he stopped using them.

But on Tuesday morning the grappler announced that he is returning to his social media platforms to help more people during these tough times.

I stopped using social media to focus on the Olympics. But I have to use it in view of the Corona crisis in our beloved country,” he stated.

“Whatever I am, I am with the love and blessings of you people. If I don’t help being a player, then it is of no use to be a sportsman. I am ready to help in every possible way in this crisis,” Punia further added.

The 27-year-old wants to influence people in the right direction during the pandemic and hence he has vaccinated himself and is promoting others to also do the same.

Punia continued his rich vein of form ever since his return from the COVID-19 forced hiatus. He clinched the gold medal at the Matteo Pelicone event in Italy which was the first competitive event in which he participated since the pandemic broke out.

Competing in the 65kg freestyle category, the 27-year-old has already booked his ticket for the upcoming Summer Games in Tokyo way back in 2019 when he secured bronze at the World Championship. Punia is one of those sportspersons who has a great chance of winning medals at the Olympics and hence Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh and even Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju speaks highly of the experienced wrestler.

“I am trying my best, but it is easier said than done. My focus is only on doing hard work and for that, I am focusing on my training. The first time it has happened that four wrestlers have qualified. So, the WFI president is right in expecting the medals from us as in recent past wrestlers have performed brilliantly.

“And we are working hard to win a medal for the country, but it isn’t that easy. It’s not like that you go into the Olympics and the medal is assured, you have to work hard for it,” Punia explained.
