India star wrestler Deepak Punia has revealed he has finally had the time to spend with his family. The lockdown which nationwide seems to have brought families together which is not exceptional even for sportsmen.
The Wrestler was on the top of his game before the arrival of the COVID-19 disease which has forced everyone indoors. However, Deepak hasn’t let that weigh him down as he has been keeping fit indoors at his home Chhara village in Jhajjar district, Haryana India.
His training this time around is alone compared to his normal routine having a partner but that that has stopped him from getting fit and maintain his top form.
In a live chat with a reporter, he said “I know it’s not possible to train with a partner as for now due to the lockdown in the country, neither can I wrestle but I can workout within the comfort of my home. I wake up early and do my usual routine after which I engage in all fitness activities I do before the lockdown*.
Deepak Punia who is a silver medalist in the World Championships and Bronze medal winner in the Asian Championship admitted that truly the lockdown might have kept him from wrestling but it has helped him spend enough time with his family which has been long overdue. “I can’t remember the last time I spent time with my family and parents likewise.”
The 86kg wrestler has already joined to make up the four wrestlers to secure a spot for the Tokyo games but following the postponement of the Olympics, this means qualified athletes will have to wait till the following year.
