2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem will not require surgery on his wrist and he is aiming to return back to action in the 2022 Australian Open, he revealed on Tuesday on his social media account. The Austrian has already been ruled out of the rest of the season and he will look to make a solid comeback.
Thiem recently was in Belgium to examine his wrist injury and he has been told by the medical experts that he won’t be needing surgery on his wrist, which will help him recover sooner for the next season.
Thiem took to Twitter to share the good news with his fans.
“I was in Belgium to decide if I need surgery on my wrist or not and luckily I have very, very good news. I won’t need the surgery,” he said on Twitter on Monday.
“It’s really stable and it’s looking good, my wrist. The next week I have to make it more flexible and strengthen my wrist, do everything to prepare to slowly start playing tennis again. “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s been a pretty long time without a racquet and I honestly miss it.”
Meanwhile, Thiem played his last match in June in Mallorca Open in which he injured his wrist and thus he was ruled out indefinitely. Thiem’s injury was determined as a ‘detachment of the posterior sheath’. The current number eight in the ATP rankings will aim to make a solid comeback in 2022 and hit the ground running in the Australian Open.
The Austrian will look to take one day at a time and not hurry himself out of injury. Thiem will be looking to fully recover before picking up the racquet again.
