Former major champion Marion Bartoli has predicted that the World no.1 Novak Djokovic will win a total of 23 Grand slam titles in his glorious career. Djokovic has already clinched 20 major titles in his career and there is no doubt he is looking good for many more.
Djokovic is currently 34 years old however he is at the top of his fitness. The Serbian still has a lot of fuel left in his tank and he had a fabulous run in the ongoing ATP 2021 season. Djokovic is hungry for more success and he definitely has a chance to win most slam titles in Tennis history.
Djokovic also had a chance to win the Calendar slam but he was stopped by Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final. The Serbian won three slam titles in 2021 and played at the top of his game.
Bartoli feels the pressure got the better of Djokovic in the US Open final against Medvedev as he lost in straight sets.
“It was quite obvious, it was just the pressure. It was the same for Serena when she tried it, obviously, it was one match earlier [at the 2015 US Open], when she lost in the semifinal to Roberto Vinci and no one expected that result.” Bartoli said.
Djokovic had admitted that he didn’t have the physical stamina in the final of the US Open as he had spent a total of 17 hours before the all-important match. Bartole believes Calendar will be difficult for Djokovic however he will win three more slams in his career.
“But for Novak, you can tell, and he said it himself, that he had no legs when he played that final,” Bartoli added. “It was just not the Novak Djokovic that we’re used to seeing. … as much as he’s a superhuman, at some point it was too much, even for him.” “I think the Calendar Year Grand Slam will be very difficult but I think Novak will get to 23,” she said.
