Former Spanish Tennis player and current sports director of Barcelone Open David Ferrer has heaped praise on Rafael Nadal. Ferrer stated that it will be impossible to repeat what Nadal has achieved in the Tennis world and he is a legend of this sport.
Nadal has confirmed his return for the Barcelona Open and he will play a total of four clay courts events in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, and Rome before the all-important French Open in Paris.
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal has won 11 Barcelona Open titles in his career, which is the most for any player. Nadal last played in the quarter-final of the Australian Open where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in a five-set thriller.
Subsequently, the lefty had to pull out of events like Qatar Open, Dubai Open, and the Miami Open in order to give some rest to lower back injury and prepare well for the clay-court season.
“Rafa’s presence in Barcelona is very important for the tournament and he will be even more so after the cancellation of last year’s edition. What Nadal has done throughout his career is something amazing and unique,” said Ferrer.
“We must explain to all the fans that what we have seen with this player is not going to be repeated. Rafa is a legend of this sport and we have to enjoy him while we can,” added Ferrer.
Meanwhile, Nadal will be chasing his 14th title at the French Open 2021 and he has an impeccable record at the clay courts. Nadal has a 100-2 record on clay court and he will look to continue his domination on the surface.
Nadal is almost invincible on clay and thus he is rightly known as the king of clay. The southpaw will aim to make a roaring comeback after recovering from his injury.
The Monte Carlo event will begin on April 11 and the final will be played on April 18. The Barcelona Open will take place from April 19 to April 25.
