World no.1 Novak Djokovic again proved why he is arguably one of the greatest ever as the Serbian began his Wimbledon 2021 campaign by bouncing back from one set down against Englishman Jack Draper to beat him 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
The Serb looked in complete control of the match after giving away the first set to Draper. Djokovic, who is the favourite to defend his Wimbledon title, looked totally dominant as he is on the path of claiming his 20th Grand slam title and joining Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the elite list.
After surviving a slight glitch of the first set against 19 year old Jack Draper, Serbian said Wimbledon is without a doubt the most important tournament of the Tennis world, “It feels great being back on probably the most special, most sacred tennis court in the world
The grass court tournament, which is without a doubt the favourite of most tennis players from both genders, got cancelled last year due to Covid-19. The World no.1 also disclosed his sadness about missing last year, “I was very sad last year, like all the players, that Wimbledon was cancelled but I’m really glad that the supporters are back. I’m glad you guys enjoyed it and hope you will enjoy the next couple of weeks”, adds Novak.
The defending champion spoke highly of 19 year old Jack Draper’s performance, “He’s only 19. Walking on to Wimbledon he backed himself, believed in himself and carried himself very well. I wish him all the best for the rest of his career.” further quotes Djokovic.
The Wimbledon championship, whose fan presence is much cliché as the strawberries and cream, has welcomed fans in the stands with all the necessary protocols and steps that have to be taken to ensure safety against Covid-19.
With winning the Roland Garros recently after coming back from two sets down against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, World No.1 has again shown his class and has sent the message loud and clear to the opponents that it would not be easy to take the Wimbledon title away from him.
