Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman Deep Dasgupta reckons Royal Challengers Bangalore will suit Glenn Maxwell’s personality and playing style. Maxwell was roped in for a whopping amount of INR 14.25 crores in IPL 2021 auction by RCB. The Australian all-rounder is expected to play a key role for RCB in the middle-order for the franchise.
Meanwhile, Maxwell didn’t have a great IPL 2020 season for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) as he could only muster 108 runs in 13 matches. Thus, he was released by the franchise before the auctions. Maxwell will aim to turn the tables in the upcoming season while playing for the Virat Kohli-led team.
Maxwell was at his best in the IPL 2014 season where he amassed 552 runs in 14 matches at an average of 34.50 and a blistering strike rate of 187.76. However, barring that season, Maxwell has disappointed with his performances. But Deep Dasgupta feels that this could be the year when the Aussie can lit the IPL stage on fire.
“One of the biggest additions, for me, I would be really, really interested to see Glenn Maxwell at RCB. Does this franchise suit him? He has been around in the IPL but will this franchise suit him?” Dasgupta told Sports Today.
“I just have a feeling that this franchise might suit his personality and the way he plays his cricket. There is a lot of similarity in terms of the franchise, which is RCB and Glenn Maxwell. So I think this could be a year where Glenn Maxwell can prove he is as good a player in the IPL as he is any other tournament in the world,” he added.
Maxwell is always the cynosure of all eyes because he brings an X-Factor with himself but he hasn’t been able to justice to his role.
Meanwhile, Maxwell was in good form in BBL 2020-21 season as he scored 379 runs in 14 matches at an average of 31.58 and a strike rate of 143.56 while playing for Melbourne Stars.
Ergo, the all-rounder is in good form and he will aim to continue the good show for RCB. Royal Challengers Bangalore will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 9th April.
