Royal Challengers Bengaluru will hope that a name change will bring a change in fortune as they continue their search for their maiden IPL title. RCB-W team was able to break the hoodoo recently and the Men would look to follow in the girls’ footsteps.
RCB will begin their IPL 2024 against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk Stadium on Friday. The team had failed to qualify for the playoffs in the previous season as they finished in sixth place with seven wins and as many losses. Ergo, the Faf du Plessis-led team will be determined to turn the tables.
Strengths: RCB’s batting has always been their strength and it will be no different in the 17th season of the IPL. There will be huge expectations from Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, Rajat Patidar, and Cameron Green. RCB will look to come up with a collective effort and if their batters can fire at all cylinders, then they will be a force to reckon with.
Weaknesses: While RCB was able to strengthen their fast bowling unit by adding pacers like Alzarri Joseph (Rs. 11.50 crore), Yash Dayal (Rs. 5 crore), Tom Curran (Rs. 1.5 crore), Lockie Ferguson (Rs. 2 crore) in IPL 2024 auction, their spin battery remains a concern. They have spinners like Karn Sharma, Mayank Dagar, and Himanshu Sharma, and thus the inexperience is palpable.
RCB Predicted XI: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Mahipal Lomror, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammed Siraj, Karn Sharm, Akash Deep.
